What I Wore - Color Burst {Route 66 Skirt}

cream blouse forever 21/ green knit vest j.c.penny/ mixed print route 66 skirt made by me {pattern}/ pinkish tights j.c.penny/ oxford heels forever 21/ bow necklace forever 21/ brown belt forever 21/ dangle earrings forever 21

I've been meaning to blog about this skirt since April. And look. It is almost November. Boy, is the year going by fast. I think it goes by faster each year. Anyways, about this skirt. This is my first Route 66 skirt, and only, that is made from different print fabrics. I tend to have a hard time mixing my prints when I'm sewing. But you know what? I really love this skirt. It is just very hard for my to style it. Why? Most of my shirts in my closet are either the wrong shade, or are a print. I'm thinking I may have too many print tops {and not the right mixing kind either}. I really need to start buying more basics and less trendy colors, or prints. :p

What I Wore | 1970s Inspired Outfit {Floppy Hat}

polka dot silk-blend top forever 21/ cardigan forever 21/ jeans maurices/ skinny belt forever 21/ boots target/ bird cage necklace forever 21/ floppy hat forever 21/ dangle earrings forever 21

I've been looking for the perfect floppy hat for a couple years now. When I first wanted one hats were not very popular - not like they are today. Then when hats were "in" I couldn't find a floppy that looked good on me. You know what I mean? So I was thrilled when I found this fedora meets floppy hat on Forever21.com a couple weeks ago. I placed the order for it last week and it arrived in my mailbox Wednesday. Which reminds me, if you are interested. I have a collective haul video posted on my YouTube channel.

When I was looking over these pictures I kept thinking of one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Jessica Quirk of What I Wore. She will wear outfits like from time to time {mostly in the Fall & Winter}. Which is fun! As she was one of the first fashion bloggers I followed.

Do you like it when there are lots of pictures in a outfit post {like this post}? Or do you prefer less pictures?

What I Wore | Graphic Tee + Blazer + Oxford Heels

Inspiration for my outfit today. {Yes, I know the skirt is short. This is JUST for INSPIRATION.}
  floral skirt made by me {pattern}/ detroit tigers #30 t-shirt meijers/ blazer forever 21/ tights {they are pink not red} j.c.penny or kohl's/ flower ring forever 21/ oxford heels forever 21

My oxford heels from Forever21.com arrived yesterday in the mail. I LOVE them! They are so comfy & cute. The heels are 3 inches high {they make me 5' 11"}, but to me that height is comfortable. I have one leg that is half a inch shorter then my other side {well, my whole right side is smaller then my left} so wearing heels help me stand better than flats do.

This pink floral skirt is my most featured piece of clothing on the blog. And I have never worn this skirt the same way twice on here. So many things from my closet go with this skirt that it's crazy!! It is almost like the skirt is a neutral color and not pink at all.

I'll be having yet another package coming in the mail tomorrow from Forever21.com. So I'm thinking about filming a collective haul video for my YouTube Channel this week. What do y'all think? I love watching haul videos on YouTube. It helps when buying things online, because you get to see the product better then you would in just pictures.

Who Inspires Me (Fashion Wise) | Lauren Bacall

I know it has been a really long time since I have done one of these. Like really long. Some of my readers may not even know of this series. If you haven't seen any of these posts before, here is who I've  done so far: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, and Deanna Durbin.

Today's post is going to be on Lauren Bacall, one of my new favorite actresses. She was married to one of my favorite actors, Humphrey Bogart, and I simply adore the movies that they do together. But we are not talking about Bogie right now, but Bacall his wife. *smiles*

An adorable outfit that Bacall wears in Key Largo {1948} with Bogie. Very simple, yet chic.

 Adorable pant and blouse outfit. Love the button details on her blouse.

Lovely lace blouse that could be perfect for 2011.

Love, love, love this stripe dress. {the fireplace is cute too!}

A full view picture of the outfit Bacall wears in Key Largo {1948}.

Movies I've seen her in:
  • To Have & Have Not {1944}
  • Key Largo {1948}
On my "to watch list":
  • The Big Sleep {1946} - This one is going to be on TCM come November 1st.
  • Dark Passage {1947} - I own this one. Just haven't watched it yet.
  • Designing Woman {1957} - I'll be taping this one Wednesday on the TCM channel.
I can't believe I've only seen two of her movies so far. Well, that will be remedy soon.
What's your favorite outfit of Lauren Bacall's? And what's your favorite film with her? I'm always open to Old Hollywood movie recommendations.

Fall Fashion Challenge 2011

shopruche.com
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years. - Audrey Hepburn

It has been awhile since we have hosted a fashion week. So I thought it was high time we hosted another one. Sound good? This one is going to be slightly different from the other ones we have done. I explain below.

What You Need to Know

When is the wonderful event?
November 6 - 12th {Sunday - Saturday}

What is it all about?
Showcasing how we can dress modestly and fashionable {meaning non-frumpy} during the fall months. Also during each day of the fashion week there is going to be a challenge for you. Don't worry, it is going to be fun!

How can I participate?
By posting photos of your outfits on your blog and linking them {your blog post, please!} up on Bramblewood Fashion daily via Mr. Linky which will be found in my outfit posts everyday.

What should I wear?
Besides keeping modesty and Fall weather in mind there will be a challenge for each day. They are the following:
Sunday - There is no challenge for this day. You can do what ever you want.

Monday - Black & Brown/ Red & Pink / any color combinations that don't normally go together.

Tuesday - Bold Tights {color, prints, patterns, lace-y...}

Wednesday - Dress like your favorite era. {1910s, 1940s, 1970s, etc...}

Thursday - Polka dots. {If you don't have polka dots, you can do another print you own.}

Friday - Your favorite Fall trend. {I have a post on the Fall trends here.}

Saturday - Wear a hat.

Are there any rules?
I only have one rule. Keep it modest. Make sure your outfit are modest and not too short and reveling. If I find your outfit entry to be objective or suggestive I have the right to remove your link. {You can wear pants and long-ish shorts too.}

What can you do?
Spread the word! Tell your friends and try to get them involved in this week. I have several HTML buttons for all of you to use below to help spread the word. Just copy and paste the HTML code. If you have any questions let me know. I will try to get back with you.

I ♥ Thursday {no. 15}

These adorable oxford heels that I bought on Forever21.com Tuesday night. I've been wanting a pair of oxford heels since 2009, so I wasn't about to let these slip through my fingers {like so many pairs before these} and become sold out before I could buy them. So I snatched them up right away. =)

I've been wearing this grey skinny belt with almost every outfit since it arrived in the mail last Tuesday. It is the perfect shade of grey and the perfect length. And for only $1.50 it's a steal.

The perfect amount of vintage & country charm.

What I Wore | 1959 Meets a Country Vibe

1960s dress hand-me-down {made by my sister, Gabrielle}/ mustard tights forever 21/ pearl clustered earrings claire's/ tan boots target

I adore this dress. I've loved it ever since my sister, Gabrielle, made it a couple years ago. I know that some of you are going to ask, what pattern did she use. Right? Well, she used vintage McCall's 5294 {1959}. I love this dress {the buttons down the front are faux} and was so excited to hear that Gabrielle was getting rid of it. I pounced on the chance for the dress to be mine. That is one of the great things about having sisters {that are also all around the same size} you have a shopping mall right in the house. {Right, Long girls?} *smiles*

You may notice that my bangs are pulled back. I've been loving them pinned back into a little poof. I've always loved the look, but was never to do it myself with my side sweep bangs. So I've kinda been going crazy with this look right now.

Y'all need to check out Sarah's blog, Through the Lilac Bushes, right now. She is having a sort of blog party with giveaways and interviews.

Before I go, don't forget the sale I'm having in my etsy shop right now.

What I Wore - Shades of Grey & Blue

grey cardigan forever 21/ grey belt forever 21/ bib necklace bass shoe outlet/ white tank j.c.penny/ bracelets forever 21/ argyle tights j.c.penny or kohl's/ teacher's pet skirt c/o shabby apple / black flats payless

This week I styled one of Shabby Apple's newest skirts, Teacher's Pet.  I've loved it since it was released, was that last month? So I was delighted when they sent me this skirt to wear. Wasn't that nice of them? Well, I can't wait to style it many different ways this fall and winter.

How would you style this skirt?

2011 Fall Trends

There are several fall trends I'm looking forward to doing this year. Now normally I don't follow the trends too much. But this year, many of the trends are what I love to wear! What are the odds of that? *laughs* So with out further ado, some of the trends for this fall.

Fall Fashion Trends: Polka Dots

Polka Dots: I'm always wearing polka dots as they are one of my favorite prints. With them being a trend this fall it will make it that much easier to find things that are polka doted. *smiles*

Fall Fashion Trends: Mustard

Mustard yellow: I was in love with this color last year, but I never bought anything that was mustard {except for fabric for my pencil skirt I made last summer}. That is all going to change this year for me. I would love to have shoes, belt, purse, hat, and scarf all in this wonderful color. *sighs*

Fall Fashion Trends: Plaid

Large Over-sized Plaids (Granny Style): What an exciting trend! Plaid. I already own a largish sized plaid coat (made it back in 2009, you can see the post here), and several plaid skirts. Oh, I almost forgot, a plaid scarf too.

Fall Fashion Trends: Maxi Skirt + Chunky Sweater

Chunky Sweaters Over Maxi Dresses/Skirts: I already did this trend once {pictures here} and loved it. I just don't own many maxi dresses, or skirts for that matter. I find that they can get in the way when sewing (I'm always getting up and down from the floor). But I still love this look. It is also an easy way to bring your summer wardrobe into your fall wardrobe.

Fall Fashion Trends: 1970s

1970s: The 70s are coming back and I don't know what to think. I'm on the fence about this one. While it is nice that fuller pant legs are coming back. Oh, also floppy hats - love them! But overall I'm still not sure. :p What do you girls think?

Fall Fashion Trends: Western

American Western (Southwest): Is in everywhere at stores. You can buy western themed scarfs, purses, jewelry, and what not everywhere. This will make shopping for my sister, Hanne-col much easier for me this Christmas. As she loves the western style. *smiles*

What trends are looking forward to this fall?

Hey, I just thought of a really cool idea. Wouldn't it be awesome if online stores let you searched by color, or trend? I love having clothes organized by color. In fact, my closet is organized by color within the sub-categories {tops, skirts, sweaters, vests).
