How is the blog loading?

While I'm lying in bed sick, I've been working on making the blog load faster - I hope. Now I ask all of you, is the blog loading any faster? Or, is it still slow.

So, I just realized that today was Thursday and that it's time for I ♥ Thursday! This will properly be my last post for this week. As I came down sick minutes after I published my last post. :(  Without further ado, my favorites for this week.

1940's Make-Up {Achieving a Vintage Look Part 2}

The next post in the Achieving a Vintage Look series is on 1940's make-up. Also, on my Formspring I was asked, "what make-up did they wear in the 1940s." Now I for one don't wear make-up, so I did some research to get the answer. =)

Resources & Info for Dressing Vintage {Achieving a Vintage Look Part 1}

On Formspring I was asked the following question, "How can I easily achieve a Vintage look??" I decided to take this question and make a whole series dedicated to the subject {it will be a short series}. =)

Stores -

The easiest way to buy vintage inspired {or real vintage} clothing is from the following stores.

{I've own a dress from them that I won in a giveaway.}

Sewing -

Another great way to get vintage looking clothing is to buy vintage patterns and make your own clothes. This is what I do. =) I find my patterns from Antique Malls/Stores {this is the big one for me} and online vintage pattern stores.

Vintage {Original Patterns}

So Vintage Patterns
{I bought my first vintage pattern from this site.}

{I've bought many patterns from her.}

{I bought several of their patterns while at Costume College last year.}

{The first one is vintage inspired. While the second is taken from their archives.}

Sense & Sensibility Patterns - 1940s Swing Dress Pattern

Blog Posts -

Latter I'll show you the ways I dress vintage. And blogs of other people who do so. Next up...1940's make-up.

Feelin' Feminine Challenge {Day Three}

- What I'm Wearing -
Vintage {1950s} Baby Blue Gingham Dress - The Way We Wore {a vintage clothing store in L.A. that celebrities shop at.}
Navy Blue Cardigan - Old Navy
Creamy Tan Belt - Christopher & Banks {years ago}
Grey Tights - J.C.Penny
Black Pumps - Connie {Famous Footwear}
Cream Flower Headband - Claire's
Pearl Earrings - Gift

Here is my outfit for Feelin' Feminine challenge hosted by Livvy at A Daughter's Heart. I'm wearing my only real vintage dress that I own today. I bought the dress while I was in Los Angeles last summer from a store called, The Way We Wore. They had so many really cute dresses that I wanted to buy from the fifties, that were my size {I have a hard time finding my size}!!! The only problem was their prices. I was only able to get this one because it was 60% off. Most of their clothes range from $60 - $1,000 {and higher}, it is not a cheap store. But the quality of their pieces are amazing and look brand new! So it's definitely worth the price, if you can get them on sale like I did. ;-)

Who Inspires Me (Fashion Wise) - Audrey Hepburn

For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness, For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people, For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry, For Beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day, For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others. - Audrey Hepburn

With the Keeping it Classy {Modest Fashion Week} coming up I decided to bring back the Who Inspires Me {Fashion Wise} series, which only lasted one post last year {It was Grace Kelly}. I know, I'm so bad about doing blog post series. I'll try to do better this year. =)

To bring back the series I'll start off with Audrey Hepburn. Who has to be one of my favorite inspirational ladies, fashion wise, ever!

I would love to see a full length pictures of this photo shoot/what ever. For her dress{?} looks fabulous!! And the umbrella is so colorful and fun! I like.

Her look is so casual, but looks classy and nice. I don't know how she did it. As she is just wearing jeans{I think}, sweatshirt or oversized shirt, and her hair is wrapped in a scarf/towel!!!

 A sweet, darling, little summer print dress. I would love to have a nice little print dress for this summer like this one. I can imagine the flowers to be a purple {not sure if it's light, or dark purple.} and the background is a cream, or white. Oh, a girl can dream on finding the perfect fabric or ready made dress like this one. ;-)

 The amazing outfit Audrey wears in Roman Holiday. It's just a simple blouse, skirt, and scarf {silk?} with a scooter! I would love to ride a scooter around Rome {just less hectic}, or just one in general. =)

As you guys know, I LOVE this jumper that Audrey wears in Sabrina. And I was able to copy it last week after years of dreaming! What bliss.

Recently I was contacted by CSN stores about hosting a giveaway. Looking around their site I found they sell many different things, everything from swing sets, shoes, and things for your kitchen. Meaning you can all use what they are going to offer to one of my readers. :)

They are offering one of you a $35 gift certificate {emailed} that you can use at any CSN store. All you have to do is leave a comment below.

This giveaway is now closed

Some rules before you comment:

1. This giveaway is only open to those in the USA and Canada.
2. Leave a comment by Midnight Saturday night.
3. The winner will be selected by random on Sunday.
4. Leave your email in your comment, or some way to reach you.

Pay it Forward!

I entered KatySue's Pay it Forward, so I'm doing it here too. Why? Because it's part of the rules. :)

Here is how Pay it Forward works:

The first FIVE people who comment {open to those living in the USA} will receive something in the mail from me. Either some vintage lace, a bit of velvet ribbon, or something handmade by me. I'll poke around and find something lovely to give to you! :)

They in turn, must commit to doing the same on their blog.

Also, please include your email address. So I can contact you.

1. Grace
3. Joanna

I'll fill in the spots as they are taken.

You may notice that I have given Bramblewood Fashion a whole new look. I did this because we switched our internet connection, and I noticed that the blog started loading slowly. So, I thought that it must be running slow for some of you too, and decided to speed it up. Do you like it? {If you don't to be apart of Pay it Forward just leave a note in your comment.} My favorite parts are the background {polka-dots!!!} and the header. Eventually I want to redo all the tags {to the posts} to something more simple.

I ♥ Thursday {no. 7}

Well, I missed last weeks edition. It only took me until last Saturday morning that I had forgotten to do it. :p

I love the new design I gave my blog, A Girls Guide to Home Life, yesterday. The header is my favorite part. :) I just might do the same here.

This wonderful movie! The storyline, costumes....

Elizabeth Taylor's outfit....{Gabrielle says, I look like her.}

Modern vintage styled weddings.....

Old-fashioned letters.....

Unique Starbucks locations.....

What are you loving this week?
