Fall Fashion | Boot Edition

Autumn will be upon as soon and with that comes fall fashion & boot wearing season. Ahh...I can't wait! My black fashion boots from Bass Shoe Outlet are on their last legs. When ever it rains, water leaks in and gets my feet wet -- not good. So in September I'm planning on buying myself some new boots. I love wearing them with skinny jeans, dresses, and skirts in the fall & winter. Since some of you might be looking for a new pair of boots, I thought I would share some of my favorites with y'all.
1)  If you are looking for a nice quality fashion boots that is over-the-knee check out Steve Madden's Creation which is in a simple, yet timeless style.

2) I think my favorite boot for this fall is the Smithe by Steve Madden. This might be the boot I pick out to buy next month, as it looks just like what I'm looking for in a boot. Of course, once I go to the store I pick out a different style, as I want my boots to come up fairly high to my knees.

3) If you are looking for a cheaper boot that looks high-end, try out the Karrie tall boot at Target as they may be just the thing for you. Of course, they do look more like a traditional riding boot.

4) Perhaps a wedge bootie is more your style? This one from Target is kinda in the style of the popular wedge sneaker, but much cutter. When I first saw this bootie wedge, I thought it wasn't that cute but now I think it would be rather cute with a knit maxi skirt, jumper, and a chunky scarf.

5) If vintage/boho is more your style these Thundr-C combat boots from Steve Madden with lace detailing are simply darling! I've been eyeing them all summer, as they are so cute. Love them.

6) Then again, there is the basic combat boot in the classic cognac color -- which btw, is my favorite color for this style of boot. I think the black one looks way too harsh, but the grey one is cute girly! This combat boots is called Troopa and is once again from Steve Madden. What can I say? Steve Madden is like my favorite shoe designer.

Of course, if you are an equestrian rider and want some real riding boots there is always Mountain Horse for your boots. I had some include some boots for my horse riding readers out there.

What are your favorite boots for autumn?

Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I've done one of these Sunday Style posts (since July I think), so I thought it was about time I did one again. Can y'all believe that next Sunday is September? This year is just flying by like crazy.

I don't know about you, but I'm really dying to wear my autumn clothes. Oh, you know the fun colorful tights, boots, jumpers, and scarves. To help curb this feeling of wanting cooler weather, I broke out a fun a colorful outfit for Church. This fun a & colorful J.Crew skirt has really made me be more bold with my color combinations. Traditionally I would have worn a more basic colored skirt with this outfit, but I think the bolder color skirt works better -- it just brings the whole outfit together.

Don't forget you could win the bloom necklace (or the McGuire double strand necklacefrom Swell Caroline within this post. But hurry, the giveaway ends on August 27th.

What I Wore | Lace Top & Jeans for the Weekend

What I'm Wearing
Lace Top -- c/o Chicnova
White Tee -- StyleMint ($15)
Jeans -- Hand-me-down from a Friend
Dangly Earrings -- Charming Charlie's ($3)
Flats -- Ruche ($15)

Hello everyone! How was your Saturday? I worked on organizing my room & closet more, it is going to look great once I'm finally finished. While working I also watched some old TV shows like: My Little Margie, The Lucy & Desi Comedy Hour, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Andy Griffith Show. Btw, what are some of your favorite classic TV shows to watch?

Anyhow, I was able to pick out an other item from Chicnova to style this month and I decided to go with this lace top. I have a weakness for lace and when it is in the color cream it is even better. *smile* Lately I've come to love wearing my lace tops with jeans, as it is the perfect mix of casual & dressy that I like -- it is also very feminine. To add to the femininity of the outfit, I wore my new dangly earrings that I bought at Charming Charlie's last night for $3 & my green flats from Ruche. You know what? I think this is now one of my favorite outfit combination to wear when ever I want to wear jeans. As it feels very comfy, yet it looks really stylish and put together.

Friday Favorites

1) A couple weeks ago we helped a friend do a surprise Sherlock party for a friend who was going to college soon, who btw had never seen the show. It was awesome seeing the episodes all at once in order. Oh, yes...our friend did love the show once she had seen it.

2) I really love the sandals featured in this picture, as well as the sundress.

3) I've missed going to southern California like crazy this summer. I miss visiting the Hollywood Bowl for a concert, going to Zuma beach, and just being in L.A.

4) I adore this large gingham print sundress. Too cute.

5) I recently purchased this Benefit set at Ulta which includes three full-sized products, and one deluxe-sample. Can't wait to play with everything.

What I Wore | Ruffle Knit Skirt & Plaid Blazer + Kosher Casual Review & Giveaway

What I'm Wearing
Graphic Tee -- Lauren Conrad via Thrift Store (Free)
Plaid Blazer -- H&M ($15)
Brown Ruffly Knit Skirt -- c/o Kosher Casual
Nude Flats -- Steve Madden ($10)
Crystal Drop Earrings -- Lauren Conrad (gift)

Hello lovelies! Why look at this, I'm post yet another outfit post this week. Yay! And I have at least one more planned, it is an outfit that I'm copying from a picture I saw in a magazine -- that will be fun. Anyhow, today to work I wanted to wear something comfy, yet professional for where I'm working. Enter a knit ruffly skirt from Kosher Casual and a plaid blazer from H&M -- the perfect combination for the workplace. Also, instead of going with the traditional button-down blouse, I went instead for the fun creative option and wore a graphic tee shirt. Making this outfit fun & stylish.

I must mention more about Kosher Casual and my ruffly skirt from them, as I'm going to be hosting a giveaway for them at the end of this post, giving y'all the chance to perhaps buy this skirt for yourself (we could then be skirt twins). Anyhow, I worked them last year (I think it was anyhow), and I had picked out a jean pencil skirt that has pockets, yes pockets -- it is awesome. They have a wonderful selection of modest skirts in varying lengths, and their shipping is fairly fast for coming from Israel.

I'm in love with my knit skirt from them. The knit is a nice thick knit, that doesn't wrinkle nor do you need a slip. If brown isn't for you, there are several other colors for you to choose from: black, purple, navy, etc... I went with brown mostly because I want to copy my sister Hanne-col, who owns a similar ruffle skirt. In case you are wondering about sizing, I decided on a size small after reviewing their size chart -- the skirt fits perfectly (no loose waistband). I was really worried about the sizing, since my waist & hips never match up on most sizing charts, but with the knit fabric (and ruffles) I figured I was safe with a small.

But enough about the skirt, I'm sure y'all are wondering about this giveaway that I mentioned earlier. Well, one of you will be winning a $25 gift card to Kosher Casual to buy anything you want. Yay! To enter the giveaway just leave a comment below with your favorite thing from Kosher Casual. Once you have done that, you can earn more entires by using the rafflecopter widget.

Rules:: The giveaway is open to everyone, but I'll double check with Kosher Casual. The winner will be emailed once the giveaway ends on August 31th @ Midnight.

What I Wore ❘❘ Peplum Top & Pencil Skirt

What I'm Wearing
Knit Peplum Tee -- Kohl's ($4)
Cardigan -- Target ($8)
Pencil Skirt -- J.Crew via Thrift Store ($11)
Mixed Metal Necklace -- Forever 21 ($6)
Flats -- Old Navy ($4)

Hello lovelies! How are y'all doing today? It looks like I'll be filling in for Gaby at our Dad's office this week, as she came down sick last night. There is this really strange sickness that is slowly starting to go around in our family, it is kinda a mix between a really bad cold/sore throat and the flu. So will y'all pray that the rest of us won't get it? My sister Hanne-col came down with it almost two weeks ago, and she is still really sick in bed. Anyhow, enough about sickness.

When I was working on cleaning out my closet this past Sunday, as I've become obsessed with organizing & I can't wait for my room to look like a room on HGTV. *smile* Gaby mentioned that I haven't worn this polka-dot peplum top in awhile, and suggested that maybe I get rid of it. I said no way, I just kinda like wearing it more in the autumn months. Call me crazy. So, to show Gaby that I still like this tee I wore it today to work.

To continue the theme of wearing things I haven't worn in awhile, I accessorized with the mixed metal necklace from Forever 21. Which if you can believe it, I've never worn this necklace before. Why, you might ask? Well....I never knew how to style it. It stumped me, plus it wasn't really my style before now. Not really sure why I bought it in the first place. I remember having a reason, but what that was I have since forgotten.

I also want to mention, that today's outfit pictures were taken by my two youngest siblings: Nathanael & Abby. They filled in today, since Gaby isn't feeling well. I must say, they did a really good job. Don't you think?

Do you have something in your wardrobe that you have never worn? If you do, why not wear it this week. That is my challenge to y'all.

How to Choose the Best Eyeglass Frames for You

By Tricia Drevets
Eyeglasses – they have the ability to mask your good looks or let them take center stage. Because not all faces are the same, eyewear should not be approached with a “one-size-fits-all mentality and, rather, you should find the design that best enhances your features.
Shape and Size: Have you ever considered the shape and size of your face?  Are you unsure of what your face shape even is? To find out, pull your hair back completely off your face and look in the mirror. Turn to the right and to the left, lift your chin up and down and consider the following categories:
  • Round: Have you been told you have a baby face? Chances are your face is round. Does your face have curved lines with proportional width and length and no real angles?  To lengthen and slim a round face, look for frames that are narrow and rectangular in shape. Also consider frames with a clear bridge to widen the eyes.
  • Oval:  If your face is oval, you have balanced proportions with your chin slightly narrower than your forehead. Choose among frames that are at least as wide as the broadest part of the face. To maintain your natural facial balance, look for glasses that are as wide as or a little wider than the broadest part of the face. Walnut-shaped frames could work well.
  • Oblong: Your face is longer than it is wide. You have a long, straight cheek line and you probably have a long nose as well. Look for frames with more depth than width (such as aviator styles) and a low nose bridge.  Contrasting temples are a good choice for you.
  • Base-Down Triangle:  You have a narrow forehead and a face that widens at the cheek and chin areas. Look for frames with color accents or details on the top part of the frame. Retro cat eye frames might be a fun choice for you.
  • Base-Up Triangle:  Your face has a wide top third and a smaller bottom third. To balance your face, choose among light-colored frames that are wider at the bottom than they are at the top. Rimless frames or semi-rimless styles are good choices for you.
  • Diamond: A face that is narrow at the eye line and jawline with broad, high cheekbones defines your look. Choose frames that have detailed and distinctive brow lines to highlight your eyes. Rimless or cat-eye styles may work well.
  • Square:  Your face features a strong jaw line and a broad forehead, and your width and length are proportional. To soften the angles of you face, try narrow oval frames and other styles that have more width than depth.
Now let’s look at colors. Not surprisingly, the factors to consider in choosing the hue are the colors of your skin, your eyes and your hair. To help you decide what color palette is best for you, let’s find out if your coloring is “warm” or “cool.”
Skin: Your eyewear should complement your skin color, and we all fall into two basic categories: cool tones, which are blue-based, and warm tones, which are yellow-based. If you have a cool complexion, you have blue or pink undertones to your skin, and if you have a warm complexion, you have a yellow cast. Olive skin, a mixture of blue and yellow, is considered a cool complexion.
Eyes:  Our eye colors vary much more subtlety than our skin color. For example, blue eyes can range from a cool violet to a warm pale blue-gray. Brown eyes can be a warm light cider shade or cool dark almost-black color.
Hair:  The hair colors that are considered in the cool spectrum are platinum, blue-black, white, strawberry blond, auburn, salt-and-pepper, and ash brown. Warm hair shades are brownish- black, brownish-gold, golden blond, traditional red, and most grays.
Selecting a Color:  Now that you know whether you are "warm" or "cool," you can see what eyeglass frame colors are the most attractive choices for you. Some frame colors that complement “warm” coloring are light tortoise, fire-engine red, camel, gold, copper, khaki, orange, off-white, warm blue, peach and coral.
Your “cools” should look for frames in the following colors:  black, blue-gray, magenta, plum, rose-brown, pink, jade, blue, dark tortoise and silver.
While it might seem like a good idea to choose a neutral color that will not clash with whatever you are wearing, it really is best to choose a color that flatters your face and your coloring.
Hopefully, now you are ready to walk into that eyeglass shop ready to choose from the frames that will suit you best, rather than feeling overwhelmed by all the myriads of choices.  There are plenty of eyeglass retailers like Warby Parker and Reading Glasses that will allow you to browse by details like shape, size and color, to allow you to streamline the browsing process. So let your eyewear be an expression of your personal style and a tool to help you really shine.

What I Wore | '90s Floral Dress + Swell Caroline Giveaway & Review

What I'm Wearing
Black & White Floral Maxi Dress -- Laura Ashley (Hand-me-down from my mom)
Jean Jacket -- Express via Thrift Store ($8)
Mustard Flats -- Old Navy ($4)
McGuire Double Strand Necklace -- c/o Swell Caroline
Tote Bag -- JustFab ($18)
Anchor Post Earrings -- c/o Swell Caroline

Hello lovelies! Yesterday me & Gaby helped our mom go through her closet and clean out things she doesn't wear anymore. I rescued this '90s floral maxi dress Laura Ashley from my mum, as I thought it looked totally on trend for this year with the black & white floral print. Besides, when the dress is paired with the right accessories, it looks very current & cute, and not at all from the '90s. Which in my book, isn't a bad thing. I'm one of those crazy people who loves '90s fashion. Yep, I said it.

Too help accessorize my outfit I used a statement necklace & anchor post earrings from my August sponsor, Swell Caroline. Which is an amazing company, btw! The girls who work there are really sweet, and they wrote me the sweetest note when shipping me my goodies to style on the blog. They are definitely one of the best companies I have worked with.

Besides having classic, preppy, and on-trend (think J.Crew) type jewelry for sale on their website, Swell Caroline also has some of the cutest packaging around. If you love gingham like me, you will adore the little pouches that their necklaces come in. These adorable gingham pouches were a fun surprise, when opening up my package once when it arrived in the mail.

How would one of you like to win one of these necklaces that I have worn on the blog? Well, to enter the giveaway just leave a comment below with your favorite thing from Swell Caroline. Once you have done that, you can earn more entires by using the rafflecopter widget.
