Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I've done a sewing project, or at least finished one. I did start making a 1950s skirt in January of this year, but I haven't finished it yet as I'm showing my sister, Hanne-col how to make skirts with no ready-made sewing patterns, but with just basic math skills.
Let's see here, the story behind the design of this dress has been a long one in the making. I came up with the basic idea of these two fabrics paired together for a sundress last summer, but the design was never really clear in my mind so I pushed the idea to the back of my head. Fast forward to last week, I was working my shift at work when the design for this dress popped into my head -- in-between helping out guests I sketched out the design onto the back of a receipt.

How to Dress Like Zooey Deschanel
| Fashion |
Zooey's style is the perfect blend of: quirky, modern, classic, and vintage. She has a way of keeping vintage clothing from looking too much like a costume, by adding the right blend of modern pieces to her finished look.
When shopping for her style keep your eye out for the following details: vintage details [especially for the 60s - 70s], polka-dots, quirky flower prints, bright colors, Peter Pan collars, stripes, high-waisted skirts, cardigans in classic styles, gingham, etc....
If you are totally unsure what styles are from the 1960s & 1970s research them out either on the internet or at your local library. If you have a good understanding of fashion history, it will help you form an eye of what looks vintage -- besides the Hollywood cliches from the 70s/80s. You can also study old family photos, magazines from the era, sewing patterns from the era, etc....

Recent Instagram Outfits
Hello everyone! I want to share with y'all some of my recent outfits from the past couple of days that I've featured on my Instagram.
Tuesday after working at Ulta Beauty in the morning doing truck, I went to the Indiana State Fair with my Mum and some of my sisters since it was $2 day. My outfit of choice was the one featured on the left: Cream Lace Tank [Forever 21 via thredUP] | Black Shorts [Old Navy] | Converse [gift] | Crossbody Bag [c/o OASAP].
Only bad thing about this outfit was that I forgot to put sunscreen on before heading out to the fairgrounds, so my poor shoulders got some sun [since I was wearing a sleeveless top].

Bramblewood Fashion's 6th Birthday!
Hello everyone! Today, to the day of the week, marks the sixth birthday of Bramblewood Fashion! It is hard to believe that I've been blogging for so long. I've met so many people over the years, some of which have become good friends of mine. I've joined many fandoms over the years too [Doctor Who, Sherlock, Marvel, etc...]. My taste in music, films, television, and fashion has changed too over the years -- which is a good thing since I was nineteen and fresh out of high-school when I started BF.
When I first started blogging I wasn't that into fashion, and BF was more focused on me sharing my sewing projects. Eventually at the encouraging of one of my friends, Rebecca, Gaby & I started sharing our outfits with y'all! Eventually this blog space evolved over the years into more of a fashion/beauty and sometimes lifestyle blog.
2009
- Went to London, UK on a historical costuming tour with my Mum hosted by Jennie Chancey of Sense & Sensibility Patterns.
- Met my best friend through the blogging world at a conference [Achaia from Marie-Madeline Studio].

1940s Themed Movie Night!
Becca thought it would be fun if we dressed up 1940s for our movie night, so we pulled out our forties inspired clothing, red lipstick, heels, and put victory rolls and pin curls in our hair. We also blasted Benny Goodman music whilst we got ready. Anything to help us get in the mood for the evening.
Originally I was going to wear a Ginger Rogers inspired outfit with my 1940s trousers and a blouse. Turns out they don't fit like they used to anymore, and they hang funny on me now. So I opted for my 1940s Swing Dress that I sewed back in 2010 [pattern review can be found here] instead as it still fits me like a dream.

Recent Beauty & Fashion Purchases + JORD Giveaway

Let's start out with the products that are featured in the picture on the left. The Maybelline Better Skin Foundation arrived near the end of July from Influenster for me to test out and review for Maybelline's #betterskinchallenge. I've worn it everyday since last Tuesday with my Urban Decay NAKED SKIN concealer for my under-eyes, and I blend it all in with my beauty blender. Which btw, I seriously need a new one as mine is looking yucky.
So far I've been really loving the foundation and it has been lasting all day even with the hot summer heat [and a car with no AC].
