It isn't often anymore that I have sewing days, mostly because I typically work one day, day off, work two days, etc.., that I typically spend all of my off-days working on blog stuff or hanging out with family & friends. Which is why when I had two days off in a row this week, I decided to take that time to have a sewing day with my sister, Hanne-col. Of course, after we had gotten started our sister, Abby, and friend, Liz [who is over to spend NYE with us] decided to join in the fun too with their own crafts. #craftsarecatchy
To help me get into the sewing mood and mindset, I watched some 'Call the Midwife', listened to 50s & 60s music, looked through my fabric stash, and gazed at pictures on Pinterest. I also had several cups of coffee.
Finally inspiration has struck! A cute pleated floral skirt, kinda like one Jenny wears in 'Call the Midwife'. Next step, perfect the design and create the pattern. When ever I make skirts, I never use a ready made pattern, I always draft my own.
This is the inspiration picture that I picked for my skirt. I even have a similar handbag and sweater top to Jenny's. I see a themed photoshoot coming in early 2015 [perhaps with even a makeup tutorial].
As of right now, the skirt is all cut out and ready to sew together. I may or may not sew some of it this evening, but since we have a friend over for New Years Eve [and I might not stay up until midnight, 'cause I have to work tomorrow morning], I might save it for tomorrow afternoon/evening to sew up.

ReplyDeletePerfect way to have spent your day. I absolutely LOVE "Call The Midwife" and Jenny is my favorite character, so of course I love that you made a skirt inspired by her. I don't have many sewing days either, but that is what I did today!!!
