Into the Archives | 1950s Coral Dress

Earlier today I didn't think I would be able to get a post up today, but as you can see, I was able to squeeze some time in for an Into the Archives post. :) Since y'all wanted to see some clothing from my collection, I decided to go with the one thing that isn't in storage right now and is on display in my room. For you see, I can't squeeze into my vintage clothing anymore since I don't have 27" waist anymore [which is what most of vintage clothing has], so I put everything into a rubbermaid in our garage. Eventually, I will have to pull them out and photograph them for this series. :) Anyhow, onto today's vintage 1950s dress!
Item: Handmade Vintage Coral Dress
Year: 1950s
What I Paid: Gift
Background Story: A few years ago, 2012 to be exact, a reader shared the link to this dress as it was for sale on Etsy. I drooled over the dress, pinned it to my pinterest board, and started saving my money for the dress. Fast forward to May of that year when I finally had the money to purchase the dress, I discovered that, to my horror, that the dress had SOLD only the day BEFORE. I was heart broken. Fast forward again to July 5th, my birthday, when I was opening my presents. My sisters, Gabrielle & Hanne-col were super excited for me to open up my present from them, and to my surprise it was THIS dress! The one I had been saving my money for & was heartbroken for when I had discovered that it sold the day before I went to buy it.

  3. What a neat story behind that dress Ashley! I always thought it was a gorgeous dress since the last time you wore it on the blog, to bad you can't fit into it anymore. :(

  4. What a touching story! Reminds me of my search for a vintage "family album" locket like the one my parents gave me when I turned ten (and then lost in the ensuing years...). A few years ago I found one on Etsy that wasn't obscenely priced...and of course someone snatched it up before I could buy it. Come Christmas, however, it turned up in my stocking! Turns out my brother had bought the locket when I wasn't looking! Sneaky siblings--aren't they the best? :-D

    Thanks for sharing!
    God bless,

  6. So gorgeous! Finding vintage clothing that fits a modern body well is difficult! I have a sweet brown chiffon dress that I bought recently, it fits but is snug. Though I have been out of my healthy habits... so perhaps someday it will fit nicely. If not I enjoy having pieces like this to display and look at too. This coral dress is so lovely, so sweet of your sisters to surprise you! :) -Alexandra
