Going Through the Era's // Fun Monday {1940s}

Today for Fun Monday I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite 1940s radio shows. Which are something I love to listen to while working & on road-trips.

The Abbot and Costello Show - Full of laughs, but they do tend to reuse their jokes a lot. But I still love it. You can download & listen to episodes here.

Dragnet - The show was know for it's true-to-life police detective stories for radio & later television. It is one of my favorite shows. Episodes can be found here.

The Jack Benny Program - A great comedy program that all five of us kids enjoy just sitting down and listening too. We generally laugh a lot while listening to The Jack Benny Show. You can listen to episodes online here.

Lux Radio Theater - When I want to check out new movies, or I just want to listen to some of my favorite movies. I'll just play some Lux Radio Theater episodes on my computer or iTouch. You can find a bunch of the episodes organized by year here

The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite mystery stories, and Basil Rathbone IS Sherlock to me. So I was excited to discover this radio show! You can download & listen to episodes here.
Now, it is your turn to link up your post for today below.

  1. I love Lux Radio Theater and the Jack Benny show! I've been meaning to listen to Sherlock Holmes and Dragnet for a while now, but haven't yet.
    Basil Rathbone IS definitely Sherlock!

  2. I definitely agree with you and Natasha, Ashley... Basil Rathbone IS the one and only Sherlock! I don't know how anyone could see it any other way. *smile*
    We've never heard the Jack Benny show, but I know it must be an absolute hoot! Well, come to think of it, maybe I've heard one or two a long time ago... they were hilarious! We have two of his movies, To Be or Not To Be and George Washington Slept Here, and they can make us practically roll on the floor laughing!

  3. I must admit that MY Sherlocks are Jeremy Brett and the Czech actor Viktor Preiss, who did radio plays of the original stories (and whom I admire as an actor in general). But I have not had a chance to encounter Basil Rathbone yet... so thanks for the link!
