Doughnuts
from: Betty Crocker's Good and Easy Cookbook c.1954
2 Cups of Bisquick {I made my own using this recipe. Instead of butter I used 3/4 c. & 2TBSP of shortening.}
1/4 Cup of Sugar
1/3 Cup of Milk
1 tsp of Vanilla
1 Egg
1/4 tsp of Cinnamon & Nutmeg, if desired
- Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan {test a doughnut hole when the dough is made. If it burns fairly quick it is warm enough}.
- Mix ingredients together until well blended with a hand mixer.
- Place dough on a lightly floured counter & knead about 10 times.
- Roll out 3/8" thick. {You can just flatten the dough with your hands too. It saves on washing dishes.} *grin*
- Cut out you doughnuts using a glass for the big circle & a coffee shot glass for the hole in the center.
- Fry up the doughnut holes first to test out your frying skills. Fry until a golden down on both sides.
- Remove from oil {carefully!} and place on a plate covered with a paper towel.
- Once the doughnuts are simi-cool shake them in a paper bag/ziplock/bread bag with some sugar & cinnamon, or powder sugar.
- Enjoy! And be ready to make some more once the batch is gone. *grin*
What did you cook up this week?
Those look really good!! I'm definitely going to have to try that. :)
ReplyDeleteI've also heard that if you keep a bag of flour in the freezer, it helps with burns too. You just stick the burnt part in the flour, and voila. I've never tried it, but it seems like it would work, since it's something cold.
That's awesome! Once you figure it out, can you post the gluten free and the dairy free recipes? I'm allergic, so I'm always trying to get my hands on recipes. :)

ReplyDeleteFYI: My Dad (he's a Volunteer Firemen & a EMT) said NEVER put butter on a burn. Use egg white or Aloe Vera juice or Lavender EO. (My Mom & I agree with him)
Yes, that looks yum. Czech doughnuts are made without the hole in the centre... but I can still use the recipe. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! :-)
