What I Wore - Color Burst {Route 66 Skirt}

cream blouse forever 21/ green knit vest j.c.penny/ mixed print route 66 skirt made by me {pattern}/ pinkish tights j.c.penny/ oxford heels forever 21/ bow necklace forever 21/ brown belt forever 21/ dangle earrings forever 21

I've been meaning to blog about this skirt since April. And look. It is almost November. Boy, is the year going by fast. I think it goes by faster each year. Anyways, about this skirt. This is my first Route 66 skirt, and only, that is made from different print fabrics. I tend to have a hard time mixing my prints when I'm sewing. But you know what? I really love this skirt. It is just very hard for my to style it. Why? Most of my shirts in my closet are either the wrong shade, or are a print. I'm thinking I may have too many print tops {and not the right mixing kind either}. I really need to start buying more basics and less trendy colors, or prints. :p

  1. I love your Route 66 skirt!! Can I have one?? :D The top and vest go perfectly with it too. I know what you mean about the print tops and skirts. I have the same problem. I normally end up putting white shirts with all of my brightly colored skirts and that doesn't always look good. ;)

  4. Beautiful skirt, Ashley! I would have worn it with a plain top (ei just the blouse.) "Pops" of color are really interesting and trendy, but too many different patterns/colors are distracting. (saying this in a friendly way, not putting down your outfit at all! :) ) For example, in the outfit above, there are so many different textures and colors going on one doesn't know where to look first! The eyes are drawn to the skirt, then the tights, then back up to the ruffled vest, then down to the shoes. A little too over-accessorized. I think it's just the vest that kind of throws it all off...there is also no brown in the skirt to pull everything together (belt and shoes.) ;)

    My critique. That's what fashion is all about, right? Eeep I don't mean to be offensive! I really enjoy your blog and read it regularly. :) :)

  5. I love your outfit! So bright and cheery and happy. The vest is really my favorite, though the skirt is lovely.

  8. Love the outfit (as usual)! I absolutely love that skirt. It's so pretty! I've been meaning to get a vest like what you're wearing. I really need to find some cute patterns because I don't usually find things in the store that fit me, or even look right on me.
    Do you have any pattern suggestions for dresses, skirts, and tops? I really like vintage clothes, so if you know of a place that sells vintage patterns I'd love to know about it!
