The next part in the series, Achieving a Vintage Look is Hairstyle's. I love vintage hair! My favorite eras for hair have to be the 1940s, 1950s, and the early 1960s.

One of the best books on the subject is Vintage Hairstyling, and it's one of the cheeper options out there. I received this book for Christmas and love it!!
Besides watching these video tutorials, and reading books on the subject. The next best thing is to study old magazines, watch old movies & TV shows, and look at old photographs. Just experiment with your hair by coping what you see! That's what I've been doing for years.

Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are just gorgeous women...elegant style. Oh, but I do love those 1940s hairstyles. When my hair gets long enough, it would be fun to have a vintage dress and outfit day from the 1940s. Oh, I think that would be fun!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
ReplyDeleteI try, I really do, but it always ends up looking the wonky! Try and try again I guess! =)
ReplyDeleteIs that Thelma Lou in your left-hand 60's picture? :-D She was such a good actress!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out your links! I love anything 1940's especially! :-)
Love in Christ,
Vicki

Aw, Thelma Lou is so cute! I just love her (and Audrey Hepburn and Mary Tyler Moore). :)
ReplyDeleteThe 40s-60s definitely had the best hairstyles. I haven't tried any vintage styles on my hair yet, but I hope to eventually. I was just reading Casey's tutorials the other day.

ReplyDeleteWooHOo! You are once again one of my favofavo sites! :) Thankyou for posting such lovely things!
ReplyDeleteAnd no 1960's post would be complete without sweet, forbearing Thelma Lou... :D She was such a darling.
Thanks for the great links! I would love to do a lot of these styles, but my hair is probably too long.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love Rapunzel's Resource! She has a bunch of tutorials for historical hairstyles, for long hair, and they are wonderful! Here's the link:

Just Looove the post on vintage hair...Grace Kelly is so lovely-a real "Belle" of her time!
I have been having trouble with trying to achieve the 1940s hair myself!(for a costume) It'd be great if you could come up with how to do them! :)

ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much! I adore anything vintage, especially hairstyles... :) I still think back on childhood days of attempting the pompadour etc... it never really worked out! But, these are a bit more doable, I think. ;) God bless!
