-What I'm Wearing-
Peach Blouse - Laura & Jayne (1983) - from my Mom
Pencil Skirt - Made by me
Tan Wedges - Target
Pearl Earrings - Gift
Cameo Necklace - Portobello Market, London, UK
I'm so excited to be wearing this blouse! Why, you may ask? It used to be my mom's. She received this blouse for her nineteenth birthday back in 1983. I have owned this blouse since I was around the age of eleven, or twelve. But I was only able to wear the blouse for a few years. The blouse looks best with a skirt that sits on your waist, or higher. And for the longest time I didn't have a skirt that fit that requirement - until now. I paired it with my favorite, and only, denim pencil skirt, wedges, pearl earrings, and cameo necklace. My outfit has several sentimental pieces in it. Blouse - was my Mom's. Pearl Earrings - received for my thirteenth birthday. Cameo Necklace - bought at Portobello Market in London last year.
I also forgot to mention, the blouse reminds us of one worn by Shirley Temple in The Story of Seabiscuit (1949) and by Jean Arthur in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). Both of which are favorite movies of ours, but that is for another day.
This evening, my mom, sisters, and I attended Mrs. Morecraft's School of Elocution & Composition (Webinar). It was most delightfully fun. I don't know if I can wait until next week for the next class. =) Are any of you taking the class?
I've been busy sewing mock-ups for our SAICFF formals lately. Tomorrow I get to start on one of the real dresses. You know, making the actual dress. =)
I like it! Very nice :) Love the Cameo too!ReplyDelete
Lovely outfit! That is so neat that the blouse belonged to your mother. :) it is very pretty.ReplyDelete
...LOVE the outfit...and the blouse is very pretty. I like the pleats and the lace at the color. Oh, this brigns back memories. You know what? Your mom has taken really good care of that blouse. That's great...and you're right about the types of skirts that pairs best with!!!! Have a lovely weekend. love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)ReplyDelete
p.s. back in the 80s/90s a lot of the girls at church used to wear black velvet dresses with white lace collars...that was "big" back then :) :) :)
Love this look! I was just looking at a photograph of ladies in 1910 yesterday thinking to myself, "I wish blouses would come back in style in a big way!" I love the ones with lace that are so feminine. And tucking them in to a high waisted skirt is the way to go. How nice that you were able to have this heirloom from your mom!ReplyDelete
Lovely! Thats so cool about the blouse! My mom has some skirts still from the 80's too! LOL! Hmm....I think it had some disengration holes though....:)ReplyDelete
Lovely! I can understand why you would love it. I would love to have something my Mom had when she was 19.ReplyDelete
The blouse really does remind me of the one Jean Arthur wears in Mr. Smith! (I love that outfit too!)
I was so happy to her that you do this!! I'm not alone! My mom has three creamy white satin shirts like this that I wear all the time! (She WAS a secretary in the 80's/ early 90's) They just seem to work with either 1900's/ anne and with 1940's/50's!ReplyDelete
