"Strike Up The Band" {1940}

Strike Up The Band {1940} is one delightful, charming, feel good movie. I saw it for the first time this past Friday with Gabrielle and Hanne-col - we loved it! In fact, it was our first Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney film we ever saw. For that matter, it was our first Judy Garland movie we ever saw. =) Needless to say, she is a darling.

Judy was lovely. Mickey was hilarious. They made us laugh and feel oh, so happy. It had great songs and some fun dance routines. Plus, Judy's wardrobe was one I wouldn't mind owning myself. Her wardrobe is great for some 1940s teenage sewing inspiration. ;-)

Some of my favorite songs from the movie were, Our Love Affair, Drummer Boy, and Nobody.

What are your favorite Judy & Mickey films? Or, Judy Garland films in general? =)

  1. I watched Strike up the Band last week for my first time, and it was also my first Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney film. What a coincidence!

    I really enjoyed it too. Judy's wardrobe was beautiful! Now I want to see more of Judy and Mickey's films.

  5. Hmm...I haven't seen any of Judy and Mickey together, but I really liked 'In the Good Old Summertime' and 'Summer Stock' - the last one because it has Gene Kelly.

  7. You definitely need to catch up on your Judy Garland films now that you've discovered how incredibly lovely she is!! :) I recommend all four of the Judy/Mickey "teen musicals," but "Girl Crazy" is probably my favorite. I love pretty much every song in that one, while in the other three movies, there are some songs that I adore and some that are not really my favorites.

    As for Judy Garland films, besides the four I already mentioned, I recommend (in no order): "The Wizard of Oz," "The Harvey Girls," "In The Good Old Summertime" (love, love that one!), "Summer Stock" (with my favorite, Gene Kelly), and "Meet Me In St. Louis" (which I wasn't too sure about the first time I saw it, but it has grown on me tremendously). She has a ton of others, but those are the ones that come to mind.
