The first thing I will be sharing is my Marianne Dashwood outfit, that I copied from the 1995 version of Sense & Sensibility.
::Inspiration::
I recreated this outfit of Marianne Dashwood back in 2008, for a trip to Williamsburg, VA. I only had one problem. I forgot to add sleeves to the pelisse! But it's OK, as it still works with out the sleeves. =)
::Materials::
Patterns I used:
Elegant Ladies Closet Pattern - (Click here to view more details)
Regency Spencer Pelisse Pattern - (Click here to view more details) - I changed the design of the Pelisse to match the one in the movie, Sense & Sensibility (1995).
Fabrics:
White strip voile for the dress and yellow broadcloth for the pelisse.
::My Version::
Now, these pictures are my Senior pictures. Which explanations how my hair suddenly got so long, and why I have different glasses on. =)
These pictures are definitely some of my favorite pictures. And don't you just the house in the background?!? A bunch of girls call it Pemberly, and we wish could live there. =)

BEAUTIFUL pictures!! I love your Marianne outfit; I've been wanting to make one like it too!
ReplyDeleteThat house is gorgeous, in the background. Where is it?
Elinor - The house is at the Indiana Museum of Art. And you can take a tour of inside the house. But I have never done that yet, even though I think it is free. =)
ReplyDeleteWow it's really pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how lovely!! You look gorgeous, dear! The dress is exquisite!

Gorgeous dress...wish I could sew one like that myself!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! The Marianne dress & pelisse turned out very nicely! Great job. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved Jane Austen and I love that version of "Sense and Sensibility" that you mentioned. I've also seen the PBS version that came out last year I think...also very good..but I just love this period style of clothing. I'd probably dress like that more often if I could...in fact, why not? Hmm...inspiration for a lovely dress for church maybe?
ReplyDeleteI'll check out that link you posted. I love the regency era, too...andyour sewing skills are amazing. May I ask who taught you how to sew? My mother sewed a lot and she was a fantastic seamstress. She made me these dresses for school...that I didn't like then, but love now..that look like the ones that the schoolgirls wear in Anne of Green Gables..pinefores I think they're called..but she never taught me how to sew. I learn that in 7th grade Home Economics class. In any case, I love what you're doing...it's wonderful and refreshing!!
Your senior photos are very beautiful,too!!! Good job...and thank the person who took the photos, too!!! I liked the one with the "Pemberly" house in the background :) :) :) Thanks for sharing these Ashley. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
Thank you everyone!
ReplyDeleteHeather - I love both versions of S&S. =) And guess what? I have worn this dress to church on Sundays.
Well, my mom taught me the basics of how to use a sewing machine when I was 8. But she didn't know how to sew clothes, I had to teach myself. So when I was 15, I decided that I was going to learn how to sew clothing. And I did so by reading lots of books, browsing through tons of websites, and a wonderful sewing forum. After I learned how to sew clothing, I taught my mom and sisters. =)
How pretty! I REALLY want to sew something now! ( And visit Willamsburg!)
