The 1940s (Sewing Through the Decades Challenge)

This week for the Sewing Through the Decades Challenge it was the 1940s. And I had the perfect inspiration - a patchwork skirt! Looking through the book, Forties Fashion by Jonathan Walford I found these lovely pictures.

1940s Inspiration One

1940s Inspiration Two

Taking those pictures for inspiration, I started sewing scraps of fabric together to create my very own patchwork skirt. And I must say, "I LOVE it!"  Someday I will recreate the shirt also.  =)

  5. Oh oh oh oh!!!! So THAT'S what I can do with all those dreamy fabrics I've saved up!!! I'd only thought of a patchwork *quilt*....

So often, when I was first beginning to sew, I'd make a garment out of a LOOOOOOvely fabric, and it would flop. Ugh. But, being rather arithmetic-shy, I'd buy a bit too much (yay!)...and now have lots of little end pieces stashed away...betcha know what will be my next sewing project!!

They are mostly earthy, dreamy romantic prints with roses! :)

I think I'll add a ruffle to mine, and make the pieces form somewhat of a gored shape--being "hippy" :)I can't wear many waistline gathers---and maybe try to recreate the blouse in the drawing!

Your outfit is so fun....what with the smart polo shirt and the whimsical skirt and snazzy boots! Everything goes!

Thankyou SO much for the inspiration!!!!! :D

  6. Thanks girls!

Kathleen - Oh! Your stash sounds dreamy! Do try and make your own patchwork skirt. And do want to know a secret? =) I use to think that "someday" I will use my mountain of scraps for quilts too. But after 4 years of sewing clothing, and 12 or so years of sewing I never got around to starting that quilt. =)
