DIY | Shabby Chic T-Shirt

For some reason, when ever I get sick I get very inspired in all things creative! Sickness cranks up my creative juices, I guess. :P

While I was sick in bed I was glancing through the magazine Belle Armoire, a delightful and inspiring magazine. I stumbled across an article by Bonzie that I had forgotten about, on taking plain t-shirts or tanks and changing them into something more creative. :)

A picture from the article by Bonzie.

Today I was feeling much better, and I have three old shirts were the sleeves had shrunk on me. So I decided to give the article a try. Here is my result. All I need was a little rick-rack, bias-tape, a fabric flower, a button, some ruffles and I have a one-of-a-kind t-shirt. Hurray!

My shirt started out as a regular turtleneck. As you can see above.

Step 1. Cut off the turtleneck part.

Step 2. Do what ever you want with the sleeves. I cut my sleeves a couple inches above my elbow.

Step 3. Do what ever you want to the neckline. I made mine into a v-neck, and added bias-tape around the neckline.

Step 4. Embellish in any way you want!  I added some ruffles, a flower, rick-rack from London, and a button. :D

Ingrid Bergman - Casablanca (1942)

What can I say? I came down sick over Thanksgiving week-end. So, I decided to watch Casablanca for the first time. And I fell in love with Ingrid Bergman's clothes! :D And Ingrid looks just gorgeous in this film with her long hair! I have only seen her in two other films, Bells of St. Mary's and The Inn of Six Happiness, both of which she has short hair. Though, I must say, she has looked lovely in each film.

I also put together a Casablanca inspired set on Polyvore, right after I finished watching the movie. :P  What can I say? I was inspired! :) And I really like the song, As Time Goes By right now.

"As Time Goes By"

What about you? What is your favorite Ingrid Bergman film? Or, Humphrey Bogart, for that mater? :)

I just want to wish you all a.....

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a wonderful day! :)

 "Come, let us sing to the Lord!
      Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
  Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
      Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
  For the Lord is a great God,
      a great King above all gods.
  He holds in his hands the depths of the earth
      and the mightiest mountains.
  The sea belongs to him, for he made it.
      His hands formed the dry land, too.
  Come, let us worship and bow down.
      Let us kneel before the Lord our maker,
     for he is our God.
   We are the people he watches over,
      the flock under his care...." (Psalm 95: 1-7)

Anna Popplewell Inspired Formal Finished!

Yesterday afternoon I finished "Anna" just in time for the banquet that evening. :-)

::Inspiration::

::My Version::

I used M5882 for the bodice and just drafted my own pattern for the cumberband (sash) and circle skirt.

The dress went together pretty well. I'm just wondering on why, oh why, I keep doing very full circle skirts on all of my formals! I keep saying I won't do another one as I don't like hemming the full skirt. :-) I think, I keep doing it because the full circle skirt flatters me. ;)

What I'm  Wearing:
"Anna" - made by me. ;)
Cameo necklace - from Portobello Road, London
Bracelet  - from Amanda
White Sweater - IZOD
Black Wedges - Xhilaration from Target
*not pictured* Black "clutch" - given to me

We Have Been Tagged!

We have both always wanted to do a tag! And guess what?! We were tagged by "Marianne" and "Elinor" over at Hooks and Needles.

The rules are to tell seven things about ourselves.

Ashley Nicole's seven things:

1. I'm a Christian!
2. I have tried many crafts and hobbies over the years. Sewing is my favorite! :-)
3. I LOVE to study His-story (history)! With my favorite eras to study being: American Civil War, American Revolution, Reformation, and the Middle Ages.
4. Chai is my favorite hot drink. I strongly dislike coffee!
5. I have been sewing clothing for 3 years.
6. Right now my favorite movies are: The Widow's Might, Meet John Doe, Emma 2009, and Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon.
7. When I was younger I wanted to be a figure skater like Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen. =)

Gabrielle Renee's seven things:

1)    I am a Christian!!
2)   Last night I saw “The Widow’s Might” for the first time and LOVED it! It may be one of my favorite movies…
3)    My favorite book characters are: Mr. Travilla (Elsie Dinsmore), Mr. Knightly (Emma), and Capt. Levis Raymond (later Elsie Dinsmore books). Molly Gibson (Wives & Daughters), Fanny Price (Mansfield Park), and Lulu Raymond (later Elsie Dinsmore books).
4)    I like sword fighting. :P

Thanksgiving Fashion

With Thanksgiving coming up, you must be pondering on what you should wear!? Well, I am. Thanksgiving is a day spent with family and friends, lots of yummy food, and maybe some football. :-) I love the holidays! And I'm always planning weeks, or months, in advance on what I'm going to wear for the holidays. :P

I have put together some ideas for you on what YOU can wear for Thanksgiving. I haven't decided yet on what I'll wear for Thanksgiving. Though, I may take my own advice. :-) (I only have my Christmas outfit planned out. :p)

You can easily change the skirt for jeans, or black slacks. I was having fun discovering all these cute skirts to add those in. You see, black is one of my favorite colors for clothing - in a classy vintage way. :-)

What are YOU planning on wearing for Thanksgiving? Maybe YOU will give me ideas on what I should wear. :-)

An Introduction and A Bag

Hello! My name is Gabrielle Renée and I am the younger sister of Ashley Nicole. I am going to be her co-author of this blog and hope to bring you inspiration to dress modestly and femininely. I share my sister’s love for modest, feminine, fashionable clothes; however my style will often differ from hers so you will not see too much of the same… ;) At 15 years of age and a home-schooled junior in high-school, my interests are vast. They include: piano, guitar, modest and feminine dress, history, fashion design, photography, school (yes, you read that right.), writing, reading, art… In all that I do I hope to glorify God! Soli Deo Gloria!

_______________________________________________________________________________

In the beginning of October I was suddenly inspired to sew a bag that I could use when I had to carry around all my notebooks... There was one problem in doing this- I did not have any pattern to use! So I set to making my own. ;) I am very pleased with the final result! It works perfectly! I already had plenty of scraps so I did not have to buy any fabric! ;)

For decoration I added lace and some delightful "Festive Posies". I LOVE Marie-Madeline Studio's posies!!

Here is Ashley sporting my bag.

"Peasant Disguise" | Maid Marian Inspired Dress

Inspired by Maid Marian's "peasant disguise" in Robin Hood BBC. I set off to recreate this dress for the Maid Mariain Fashion weekend, but was unable to finish in time.

::Inspiration:::

::My Version::

::Pattern::

Pattern Description: MISSES’ DRESS IN TWO LENGTHS: Princess seamed dress has back ties on all views and patch pockets on view B.

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 10

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Nope, as I made changes to the design.

Were the instructions easy to follow? So easy I didn't use them. :P

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The pattern is baggy and doesn't look right. But, with my design changes it looks fine.

Fabric Used: Calico from Jo-Anns.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: YES! I shortened the longest length, it was easier then lengthen the pattern. Changed the length of the sleeves, and added ruffles to the sleeves and neckline. I also added lacing to the side.

Would you sew it again? Have no need to.

Would you recommend it to others? Only if they wanted to copy Maid Marian's dress.
